From the Desk of AB9ZI - January 2025 Message

The President’s Desk

I want to take this opportunity to wish all of you Holiday Cheer and Happy New Year!

As your new president I am honored to be in this position and work with our new board of directors as we move into 2025.

In the past I served as VP and as an at large board member. I have seen what an amazing and worthwhile club this is and I will need your help to take it to the next level.

Your club operates multiple repeaters including VHF, UHF, D-Star, Fusion, and 6 and 10 meter beacons. We have a full VHF, UHF, and HF station in the Northbrook Library. Regularly scheduled events include the Fox Hunt, QRP Night, Hams in the Park, and the largest (and while it isn’t a “contest”) a highly rated Field Day. Don’t forget about our monthly VE ham radio license test sessions, Build Club, our Thursday night net, and the ever popular and growing Saturday Morning Breakfast at Max’s Deli in Highland Park. Of course, at 10:30 AM on Saturday there is our 10-meter round table on 28.355 MHz.  And we offer our assistance in the TREK Bicycle 100 and the Chicago Marathon. Speaking of the Chicago Marathon, our own Rob Orr was honored for his years of leadership at that venue! Don’t miss the article on our website.

As the newly elected president some of my goals this year include seeing a greater number of members step up and participate in the planning and execution of these activities throughout the year. Many of our members are very knowledgeable and experienced in the events of the club and I would like more members to shadow them and then assume the responsibility for these events in the year(s) to come.

It will be a pleasure working with all of you and seeing how much more we can accomplish. I look forward to meeting and speaking with all of you hearing your ideas and suggestions as we have a productive and fun year.

Please note that our January and February meetings will be Zoom only and NOT at Heller.

These Zoom meetings will be interesting with presentations in January of "FlexRadio - The FLEX-8000 Series Overview” by Michael Walker VA3MW and The NSRC Flex Radio Cadre by Marty, KD9GYM. In January we will also present the year-end financial and membership reports.

At the February Zoom meeting we will have a presentation by Tim Duffy of DX Engineering about new and upcoming products.

The link to these and ALL our club monthly meetings is on the first page of our now up to date website, www.ns9rc.org.

Please feel free to contact me at any time with your comments, ideas, and suggestions.

In closing, have Safe and Happy Holidays!

73,

Brian AB9ZI
