Field Day 2026

Field Day is ham radio's open house. Every June, more than 31,000 hams throughout North America set up temporary transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radio's science, skill and service to our communities and our nation. It combines public service, emergency preparedness, community outreach, and technical skills all in a single event. Field Day has been an annual event since 1933, and remains the most popular event in ham radio.

Our annual Fox hunt and social gathering will be held on the second Tuesday in July at the Glen. A Fox Hunt, in amateur radio, is a group activity where the “Fox” hides a transmitter, and the hunters use direction-finding techniques to locate it.

We are meeting at the northwest corner of Gallery Park, at the intersection of West Lake and Patriot Blvd. There is a parking lot across the street from Mint Lane. More details under Events - Fox Hunt.

QRP night (No Club meeting this month)

The North Shore Radio Club annual Campfire & QRP night will be the second Tuesday in September. 7:00pm.at the Emily Oaks Nature Center in Skokie. Emily Oaks is at Brummel and Kenton - just north of Howard St., two blocks east of Skokie Blvd. A map is referenced below or just use your GPS. Bring your QRP rig, battery, antenna, and some insect repellent, just in case campfire smoke isn’t enough to keep bugs at bay. Beverages and s’mores will be provided. As the days grow shorter, it’s almost dark by 7:30, so recommend you get there early to set up an antenna. 40, 30, or 20 meters are usually the bands of choice. Once again there will be “Emily” awards for QSOs that cover the greatest distance per watt, with separate categories for CW, SSB and digital. Bring a friend!
