From the Desk of AB9ZI - December 2025 Message

It is December already!  Where has 2025 gone?  Let’s give special thanks and a call out to all of our amazing volunteers who helped planning and executing plans to make these events great.  We couldn’t have done it without you.

Let’s review all of our activities in the past year.

  • November:  All of our ongoing activities

  • October:     Our only fund raiser, the Auction, assisting in the Chicago Marathon,  and the last Hams in the Park for 2025

  • September: QRP night with a camp fire, S’more’s, and mosquitoes.  And Hams in the Park

  • August:        Hams in the Park and NO Field Day meetings

  • July:  Fox Hunting in the Glen, Hams in the Park, and a Field Day debriefing meeting

  • June: Field Day arrived at last!    As usual our club scored quite well in this “not a contest” event.

  • May:  Hamvention, more Field Day planning, and a Hams in the Park

  • April: We celebrated World Amateur Radio Day, had a Hams in the Park, and of course planning for Field Day

  • March:        First Hams in the Park for 2025 and the beginning of planning for Field Day

  • February:    We gathered together for a club dinner and shared some good conversations at Portillo’s in Deerfield

  • January:      Some brave souls participated in Winter Field Days at various locations

In addition to those events, by the end of 2025 we will also have had:

  • 52 Saturday morning breakfasts at Max’s Deli.  We set an attendance record of 26 attendees, twice!

  • 50 Thursday night nets.  (None on Thanksgiving or Christmas as they were both on Thursdays in 2025)

  • As a public service, Northern Illinois SKYWARN used our repeaters 52 Sunday evenings for their nets.

  • Build Club meetings and Library Club Station activations at various times throughout the year

  • 12 VE sessions where we served the amateur radio community by offering ham license testing

  • New for 2025-Lenny WO9X started an “after net round table” on Thursdays giving new hams an opportunity to get on the air.

Looking forward to 2026 we will have a full calendar of events including a new team of Field Day leaders!

Be certain to check the club website at www.ns9rc.org for all the latest information on club activities.  It is updated on a regular basis.

The North Shore radio club is an all-volunteer organization.   There are many opportunities to volunteer to assist with club events and behind the scenes.  Check it out on the website: https://ns9rc.org/open-club-positions

As I close out my final column of 2025, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a

Happy and Safe Holiday Season!
