Don, KK9H recently called my attention to an article on why ham clubs are dying (www.eham.net/article/42959). Essentially it pointed to eight factors that can keep our club healthy. As I reflected on these factors, we appear to possess every one of these elements and maybe that is why our club continues to grow and thrive. We have introduced a summertime Hams in the Park, at least one social event (Lou Malnatis), interesting and educational monthly club programs, a reinvigorated Build Club, Saturday Morning Breakfast Club, Monthly VE examinations, a new (as of May 30th) ham radio station at the Northbrook Public Library, antenna raising parties, the monthly eMitter, a Facebook presence, and many public service projects ranging from the Chicago Marathon to the Evanston 100 Bike Event.

With the beginning of the year already underway, we need to think about all the activities coming up. From our newly negotiated agreement with the Northbrook Library for our joint Ham Station to our public service events like the Chicago Marathon, we all play a key part in their success. Advance planning requires some level of commitment and a willingness to participate. In reviewing all of the activities our club engages in, we have a need for each member to volunteer as much time as they are able to. After all, the club does not run itself (although it may seem like that to some).
