This is Your Club

With a very successful Field Day under our belt after a two-year absence, our club has learned a lot of valuable lessons, as we do each year when we get to dust off our communication skills.  I want to thank everyone who came out to join us and participate in the event.  With such a fine facility at Clarkson Park in Northfield we intend on utilizing it again next year.  To those brave individuals who contracted Covid, we wish them continued wellness.

As the summer months heat up and the dog days of summer approach, we have much to look forward to.  The Fox Hunt is coming up in Glenview and we hope to have maximum club participation since this is in lieu of our July club meeting.  Following this we have planning in the works for our Grand Opening of the Ham Station at the Northbrook Public Library on September 17th which will include a Hams in the Park event in the adjacent park in the afternoon and an introduction to ham radio information session that morning.  QRP night is also coming up and will test the skills of our members to make as many and distant contacts as possible at Emily Oaks in Skokie.  Please see our website and other sections of this eMitter for details.

Our club’s growth has continued to break records.  With so many members we have recognized that our club has a wide diversity of interests.  From participation as communication facilitators for the Chicago Marathon in October to the expansion of our Build Club in the Fall, there is something for everyone.  In this regard, we are hoping to involve more of our membership in those activities where they have members have an interest.  Our club has many talented individuals with a wide variety of skills.  This allows us the opportunity for you to help us help you by volunteering to lead or help organize events or projects.  Whether you are interested in the technical aspects of repeaters, building antennas, doing QRP, working on our website or just learning the basics of communications, we need you to step up and volunteer your time to help make our club the most “interesting ham radio club” in our geographic area.  Please consider volunteering your time to one of these areas of interest and letting me know how you can help.  I will be following up with each of you to see how we can get you more involved and help yourself and others get more out of the club through active participation.

We are always interested in new ideas, feedback on what we are getting right and what we need to improve.  This is your club.  Let’s make it GREAT!
