Mayday

Mayday, Mayday.  No, not the distress signal usually associated with a disaster, but rather a recognition that Spring might finally be here. May begins our reentry into the outside environs.

We will begin by reinstituting our Hams in the Park Program at the Captain  Daniel Wright Woods, 24830 N. St, Mary’s Road, Mettawa, IL 60045 (https://www.lcfpd.org/wright-woods)

It will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022. It will be held every month at times and locations to be decided after the first one of this season.  All are welcome with or without equipment.

This will be great practice for Field Day, 2022 to be held at Clarkson Park in Northfield the last weekend of June.  This is an all hands and family friendly event.  If you have not already volunteered, please contact Don, KK9H with your willingness to be part of the planning team.

And speaking of getting out to meet other hams, if you have not already planned your trip to Dayton/Xenia Hamvention, it’s not too late.  Hamvention occurs the weekend of May 20-22nd

We will have a club table and rest stop to sell club equipment and personal gear (provided you stay with your equipment till sold)  as well as to rest your weary feet.  It is the first Hamvention in over 2 years.  I hope to see many of our members there.

Our May club meeting will be hybrid (in-person and via Zoom) because the Omicron variant has reached a moderate level again in May for Cook and Lake Counties.  While we had a few glitches with the visual portion of our meeting in house, we hope to have a smoother meeting this month.  BTW, our membership continues to rise to record levels, thanks in part to our ability to test monthly at the Northbrook Public Library and our ability to use computers for the VE exams.

Later this summer we plan to officially have a grand opening of our Ham station at the Northbrook Public Library combined with a Hams in the Park activity adjoining the library.  Look for that in late August or September of this year (previously delayed due to the COVID surge).
