Fall is in the air

Fall is definitely in the air.  With our summer activities coming to a close we welcome In the new fiscal year with the beginning of our membership drive.  With more ways to pay (Zelle, Paypal, check or cash) it has never been easier to renew or join our increasing number of club activities.  We have in-depth technical seminars on Saturday mornings, Build club activities throughout the winter months, hybrid club meetings every month at Heller Nature Center or via Zoom, a November club sale of donated club equipment, access to our ham equipment at the Northbrook Public Library, public service events, and even Saturday morning breakfasts at Max’s in Highland Park.  There is something for everyone and we have a group of mentors eager to help you with your technical issues or to help set up your shack. And don’t forget our city-wide repeaters for everyday conversations including D-star and Fusion plus our Thursday Night Net. So join now and save with our $5.00 discount if you renew before December 31st.

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of those members who came out for the grand opening of our Northbrook Public Library ham station ribbon cutting and Introduction to Ham Radio by Derick Bonewitz,AB9PR  Our strong showing was truly impressive and for those that stayed for Hams in the Park, a hearty thank you for your participation.  We made a significant impression on the community and we now have a resource to use to acquaint the public with what ham radio is all about.

As an early reminder, our nominating committee is closing in on the process of selecting club members for nomination to our Board of Directors.  Any interested members can let their interest be known to any Board member if they wish to be considered for nomination.  It is one way to become more active, meet more members and have a hand in shaping the future direction and activities of the club going forward into 2023.  Nominations are announced in November for the formal club vote in our December regular meeting.

A final note that as we close out our year of activities I have the honor of selecting one of our members who has contributed their time and effort on behalf of the club to advance the spirit of ham radio among our members and our community.  If you would like to suggest one of members for this award, please contact me directly with the name and justification for considering that individual for nomination.  Thank you.  I can be contacted at KR9T@arrl.net.

Well, Happy Halloween everyone and until next month, 73 to all.

 73,

Burt KR9T
