February 8 Meeting - Marathons & Hams

Ham Radio supports Marathons – US Marine Corp Marathon, Chicago Marathon and every other major competitive Marathon uses ham radio operators to handle emergency traffic.  For 34 years, hams have been providing radio support to the US Marine Corp Marathon and their efforts have evolved with the changes to technology.  The Chicago Marathon never used ham radio operators for support before and two years ago, hams were asked to solve a unique problem.  For the NSRC February meeting, Rob Orr, one of the leads for the Chicago Marathon planning team and President of the North Shore Radio Club, will look more closely at the ways in which ham radio has been helping these unique events.  These activities demand a huge volunteer staff and lots of coordinated repeaters, and they are putting a fresh face on ham radio.

Mark WA9IVH, Club Net Director, will review the results of our recent Net Usage Survey, and the changes that we’ll be making based on the feedback received.
